Abstract

The internalization of moral values in Islamic education faces increasingly complex challenges in the digital era, particularly regarding the erosion of moral values and the diminishing presence of authentic role models among the younger generation. This study aimed to examine the process of internalizing moral values through an exemplary approach, map the obstacles to its implementation, and formulate strategies to strengthen its application in the context of contemporary Islamic education. This study used a qualitative method based on library research with descriptive-analytical analysis of relevant literature sources. The results showed that the exemplary approach has significant capacity to internalize moral values because it is able to present moral values in concrete forms that can be directly observed and emulated by students. However, its implementation still faces several obstacles, including inconsistency in educators’ attitudes and behavior, weak institutional culture, and the strong influence of digital media on character formation. These findings confirm the need to integrate the exemplary approach comprehensively and systemically into the curriculum, school culture, and everyday learning practices. This study provides a conceptual contribution to strengthening the paradigm of Islamic education that positions moral formation as its main orientation through an integrative, contextual, and relevant approach to the dynamics of modern society.
